The Erickson Aircraft Collection B-17, Ye Olde Pub will be parked inside the grounds so you will be able to get up close and personal with this beautiful flying fortress! This specific aircraft is the last of the B-17 “Pathfinders” that were built.
Don’t know the history of the Ye Olde Pub aircraft involved in what is known as “WWII’S most incredible aerial encounter”?
American pilot Charlie Brown was limping his severely damaged B-17 back when German pilot Franz Stigler quickly caught up to Brown and his crew in his Messerschmitt Bf 109 G6. Instead of shooting the damaged aircraft of enemy forces down, Stigler escorted the aircraft through enemy territory to safety.
After an extensive search by Brown, the two pilot’s finally met each other 50 years later and became friends until they both passed in 2008.
