That was some Airshow!

Oh brother, that was some airshow!

Optimist staffer gets to buzz his sailing siblings thanks to a ride-along with the Granleys he won't ever forget.

As the media sponsor for this year's Boundary Bay Airshow, the Optimist was offered a chance for one of its employees to go for a "ride-along" with one of the performers. I was the lucky one, but I really had no idea it would be one of the most fun things I've ever done!

Boundary Bay Airport Unveils New Runway Lights

The new system is common at most high traffic airports.

A new advanced lighting system has been installed on one of the runways at Boundary Bay Airport, the latest in an ongoing series of improvement projects.

Alpha Aviation, the operator of the municipally-owned airport, unveiled the $300,000 Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) system on Runway 07 Tuesday, a project that includes electrical upgrades and a new airfield lighting control system for the control tower, all completed on time and under budget.

The PAPI system uses a series of red and white lights to guide a pilot while on approach to the runway and indicates whether he or she is high or low on the glide path. PAPI systems are common at most high traffic airports.

2015 Boundary Bay Air Show - General Information

AirShow Logo

People of all ages have a fascination with flying.  There is something about ‘taking to the skies’ that challenges and excites.  While we may never have the experience of flying our own planes, we can share in the thrill of seeing others do it.   The Corporation of Delta and Alpha Aviation are proud to sponsor the Boundary Bay Airshow on Saturday, July 25, 2015.

As one of the few remaining free admission airshows, this event holds an appeal for people of all ages.  From children’s activities and delicious food options, to the non-stop excitement in the skies, there truly is something for everyone.

This year we will be honouring the 70th anniversary of the end of World War 2.  We are very fortunate to have signed some fabulous vintage aircraft to wow the audiences over the skies of Boundary Bay.  From the Historic Flight Foundation we will have their B-25, Grumpy and their Grumman Bearcat F8F-2A.  Both of these aircraft have fantastic stories that you will get to hear about as they gracefully fly through the air.

No airshow would be complete without some amazing aerobatic performers.  To date we have Bud and Ross Granley, John and Richard Mrazek, and one of the stars of the new Discovery TV show “Airshow” Super Dave Mathesion all lined up to make you look up and say “WOW”.

Please check back periodically as we will update our content as we finalize our show’s line up.

We look forward to presenting you with a great experience that incorporates our slogan of “flying, family and fun!”

July 25th from 7 am until 5 pm. If you are interested in participating, please contact Alpha Aviation office at 604-946-5361 or at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Thank you!

2012 Up and Coming Airshow Award

We were honoured at the Northwest Council of Airshow’s conference this past weekend with the award for the 2012 # 1 “Up and Coming Airshow”.

Our hard work and inspiration has been noticed by our peers!

NWCAS is an association of airshow producers, airshow performers and airshow support service providers. NWCAS was created as a regional branch of the International Council of Airshows (ICAS) to allow for better representation of airshow related issues as well as the local arena to promote the interests and advancement of airshows in the Northwest. The northwest region spans from North Dakota to California, up to the Northwest Territories and out to Saskatchewan.

Emergency Exercise at Boundary Bay Airport

Emergency responders made the grade Wednesday during a mock plane crash at Boundary Bay Airport.

"All agencies performed very well," said airport manager Lyle Soetaert of the mid-morning emergency exercise. "Obviously there's always things to learn and that's why we do this."   The exercise involved a scenario where a plane crashed, seriously injuring a family onboard.
